BEHIND THE FABRIC OF SPACETIME

This essay reframes the ‘hard problem of consciousness’ as a problem of dimensionality rather than ontology.
Despite significant advances in neuroscience, little progress has been made in explaining why there is ‘something it is like’ to be a subject of experience.

My inquiry into consciousness and spacetime

Originally from New York and based in Johannesburg for over 20 years, I am a PhD candidate at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) whose doctoral research bridges philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and the conceptual foundations of fundamental physics. I develop a dimensional account of experience informed by string theory, cosmology, and mathematical formalisms, aiming to situate consciousness within a deeper metaphysical framework. My work investigates how scientific models of the universe intersect with questions of subjectivity, embodiment, and the nature of experience.

I am also a professional architect and project manager, work that complements my philosophical inquiries through spatial research and social engagement. I have published on the social impact of urban design in Johannesburg, reflecting the link between the built environment and speculative thought. Through my architectural teaching at UJ, I have facilitated student-led design and construction of community-based projects such as soup kitchens and urban furniture installations. These engagements ground my interest in how physical space shapes human meaning and inform my broader inquiry into the nature of consciousness.

MA thesis

In this Master’s dissertation I explore various approaches to addressing the mind-body problem and ultimately introduce and defend a novel response

Hyperdimensional Neutral monism

In this article, I introduce the concept of ‘hyperdimensional neutral monism’ as an elaboration and exploration of the neutral monism.

Consciousness and Multiple Dimensions (For Non-Philosophers)

The ‘hard problem of consciousness’ is loosely that of how physical atoms could possibly combine in such a way to create brains, which then create consciousness.
